You're probably wondering why my postings have been sparse lately. It's because I'm getting ready for a solo at the Marcia Wood Gallery in Atlanta, Diamond Life, opening April 16. It's my fourth solo with the gallery (and my 26th career solo).
Ever since I made that diamond-shaped print in June, I've been thinking about the way the diamond asserts itself in space, and the way it holds my color fields within it. I've also been thinking about rhomboids within the square field. There's a lot of push and pull, point and counterpoint--and, ultimately, equipoise. Here's a peek at what I've been working on.

Love it, Joanne! Congratulations and best of luck with your show!
ReplyDeleteVery dynamic...a nice complement to the quieter Silk Road pieces.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on solo show no. 26.
Mazel Tov!!!
Exciting news.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fabulous piece Joanne - the colour, texture (and of course those triangles)!!
Luscious, fabulous colors! Yummy, delicious! Thanks for brightening my snowy day.
ReplyDeleteGreat!Wishing you all the best for the show.
ReplyDeleteLoving this, hope I can get down to see these in person!

ReplyDeleteI love the shift in direction-- very beautiful palette. Looking forward to seeing the entire body of work.
ReplyDeleteLove it! Congratulations on your new work, Joanne. You have brought the diamond and its relatives into a new and beautiful relationship.
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Joanne! 26 is my lucky number - hopefully lucky for you too! Enjoy the fruits of your labors. Wishing you all the rewards you could wish for yourself with this show. Since I won't be getting to Atlanta, please post some pix for those us to admire (I know it's not nearly the same as the real deal, but still...).
ReplyDeleteVery mathy! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThe work looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWonderful piece. Congrats and best of luck with the show!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Everyone!
ReplyDelete@Bev: You are right about the "mathy" part. It was harder than I thought to figure it out, even with graph paper. I'm working on a third painting in which elongated diamonds orient verically on a diamond-oriented square. It's a good thing no one is depending on me to send them into space.
These are beautiful Joanne, and such a natural progression from your prints and painting. Hope to see some at Arden too since I won't make it south! Best regards to you for a most successful show.
ReplyDeletebeautiful direction, Joanne. Glad to see you are constantly on a creative roll.
ReplyDeleteThis looks great. I can't wait to see the rest!
ReplyDeleteNice new direction. Looking forward to seeing more!
ReplyDeleteAnd 26 solos--that's a great accomplishment. Congrats.
I am happy to say I will be able to make the opening to see your new work! Congrats on solo no.26!
ReplyDeletebeautiful! looks like a breakthrough-out of the grid...shifting...LOVE IT!!!
ReplyDeleteThese diamond paintings look fantastic Joanne!

I especially like the quality of the colored triangles being inlaid. Considering the quality of how two hard edge color areas join, and making that juncture beautiful is usually missed by those who use masking tape. The little cliff of paint that is often left can be jarring on close inspection. Poetry in details...
