Honest to god, while I was waiting for the crowds to thin in order to get an unpeopled shot, I actually heard a woman say, “It’s pronounced Monay, like the jewelry.” Except that she said joo-ler-ree. I wondered if anyone would make a crack about a big sofa, but no. At least not on my watch, anyway.
Try to get there when the museum opens, before the hordes come charging in and posing in front of the paintings. It's a madhouse in there all day long, the very opposite of what must have been the tranquility of the Old Man's garden. The paintings are on view until April 12.
Here’s a link to MoMA for more info, and one to Roberta Smith’s New York Times review back in September.

Wow!
I saw it in Paris. This is amazing.
I saw the Monet exhibit at NC Museum of Art. Incredible works. All amazing.
Wow! It makes me tingle. Monet is my absolute idol. Thanks for sharing...
Those of us in the non-American English-speaking world who spell it jewellery rather than jewelry usually pronounce it joo-ler-ree, so it's not an incorrect pronunciation.
Incredible. Probably a must-see (or at least a "should-see") for artists, regardless of discipline.
I had the pleasure of viewing his late paintings of Giverny from Musee Marmottan in New Orleans many years ago. Huge crowds, & hard to really see, so I managed to go through the show again, working my way backwards, despite some awkward looks from security. Glad I had that second look. The paintings were awe-inspiring.
Andrea,
Thanks. You make a good point. But I must note that the person in question was speaking fluent New Yorkese, with a Maspeth-into-Lawn Guyland accent. Queens English, but not the Queen's.
Queens English is right. Funny, Joanne. If she'd written it, there would have been a misplaced apostrophe and a comma between the subject and predicate. Grr.
And it was GRRReat to see you!
My favorite visitor comment happened at a Malevich exhibition. "This is cubism...because of all the squares"
My favorite is in a Joan Mitchell show. "I just love her music!"
