Fair Fetched: Punctum

ABMB: Pedro Reyes at Galeria Luisa Strina, Sao Paolo

In Latin, punctum means "point" or "puncture." I wasn't thinking about the word until I saw a number of works that evidenced a sharp tip or gave way to perforations. Then I started looking at puncta in earnest. Lucio Fontana, with his Concetto Spaziale series, is an exponent of the perforated surface, is Antoni Tapies, who punctured (and slashed) the surfaces of his paintings. I found a lot of paintings, sculptures and works on paper that fit into my made-up category. A good organizing principle helps me focus my looking, and it certainly help me when reporting on what I've seen. You'll see a lot of details in this post, all the better to sharpen your own viewing.

Friends: If you are enjoying my posts, please consider donating to this blog. It costs an enormous amount of money to travel to and stay in Miami for five days, and while I'm writing these reports I'm not painting, which is how I earn my living. If you find this series of value to you, a modest donation is most welcome. The PayPal link is on the sidebar right, just under the header. Thank you.
