There was a good deal of cut paper throughout the various venues, but I'm focusing on these three artists because their focus is so specific. They employed paper that was meant for a purpose other than artmaking.
.
Sarah Sze turned to lined notebook paper. Jill Sylvia used ledger paper, and unlike Sze who employed laser cutting, she did it all by hand--line by line, page by page. Jorge Macchi used the obituary pages of the Buenos Aires newspaper, La Nacion.
Art Basel Miami Beach: Sarah Sze, Notepad, 2008, laser-engraved paper, edition of 40, at Carolina Nitsch Contemporary Art, New York
Aqua Art on Collins: Jill Sylvia, Untitled (Yellow Book), hand-cut ledger paper, at Eleanor Harwood Gallery, San Francisco
Scope: Jorge Macchi, Monoblocks, 2001, cut newspaper pages, in a curated project associated with CIFO, Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation, Miami
(Sorry, but without a catalog, it's hard to get all the information)
